The avian group‐specific (gs) antigen in the virogenic RSV‐transfarmed LW13‐RsKl and LW13‐RsK4 cells is detectable in the perinuclear zone of the cells only by immunofluorescence tests. After treatment of cells with 5‐bromodeoxyuridine (BUdR) it is detectable even by complement‐fixation tests and the immunofluorescence tests reveal its presence in the whole cytoplasm of tumour cells. The increased expression of gs antigen is, however, transient. Attempts to induce gs antigen in the non‐virogenic RSV‐transformed cells after BUdR treatement failed.
