Elsborg, L., Andersen, D. & Bastrup-Madsen. P. 1973. Gastrocamera Screening in Pernicious Anaemia. With Special Reference to the Occurrence of Gastric Polyps and Cancer. Scand. J. Gastroent. 8, 5-8.Eighty-two patients with pernicious anaemia were subjected to routine gastrocamera examination with a ‘blind’ technique. Verification of positive diagnosis was performed by gastroscopy and x-ray examination. Gastric polyps were found and verified in 15 cases (18%). Histologically all of the polyps were benign. Re-examination showed that single polyps had disappeared in 7 cases within 6 months. It is suggested that gastric polyps in pernicious anaemia reflect a dynamic state of the gastric mucosa rather than a neoplasia. No cases of gastric carcinoma were discovered.
