Novel protein microarray discriminates influenza A-infected chickens with ~100% specificity.
Why the study?
Does a protein microarray accurately detect antibodies against multiple HA-types of influenza A viruses in chickens?
Does a protein microarray accurately detect antibodies against multiple HA-types of influenza A viruses in chickens?
A newly developed protein microarray can accurately detect multiple influenza A HA-type antibodies in chickens, offering a potential surveillance tool for human-animal interface studies.

May support broader avian influenza surveillance in poultry; leaves open prospective field validation before routine adoption.
Freidl et al. (2014) studied Avian influenza A virus infection (n=133). Protein microarray (PA) vs. Hemagglutination inhibition (HI) assay and ELISA was evaluated on Diagnostic sensitivity and specificity. A novel protein microarray successfully discriminated negative from influenza A-infected chickens, demonstrating a sensitivity of 84.4% to 100% and a specificity of 100% at a cut-off level of ≥1:40.
