Key result
Genetically predicted VAT is linked to PCOS, characterized by inhibited glycolysis and activated oxidative phosphorylation.
Why the study?
The significance of visceral adipose tissue in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome and its role in metabolic disorders remained unclear.
Observational (n=24)
Answers are grounded in this paper and cite their sources.

Zhang et al. (2024) conducted an observational in Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (n=24). Increased genetically predicted visceral adipose tissue (VAT) vs. Control subjects was evaluated on Causal relationship between genetically predicted VAT and PCOS, and metabolic changes in VAT. Increased genetically predicted visceral adipose tissue was causally associated with PCOS, with VAT in PCOS patients exhibiting inhibited glycolysis and activated mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation.
