VA-ECMO and IABP enable neurologically intact survival and LVEF recovery to 50% following STEMI arrest.
Case Report (n=1)
VA-ECMO can serve as an effective rescue therapy for patients experiencing cardiac arrest during acute coronary syndrome interventions, allowing for myocardial recovery and survival without neurological sequelae.

Supports VA-ECMO rescue in refractory post-infarction arrest; hypothesis-generating case report requiring prospective validation.
Caccamo et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Inferior STEMI complicated by cardiac arrest and cardiogenic shock (n=1). Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) was evaluated. A 39-year-old man with inferior STEMI and cardiac arrest was successfully supported with VA-ECMO and IABP, resulting in survival without neurological sequelae and recovery of LVEF to 50%.
