A new electronically collimated gamma camera utilizing a gas scintillation position-sensitive detector and a multiwire proportional chamber is proposed and its imaging characteristics are discussed. The scheme preserves all the advantages of an electronically collimated system (ECS), i.e. high sensitivity and simultaneous multiple views of the object, over the conventional NaI gamma camera. Compared with the Ge-based ECS, this scheme gives a higher spatial resolution and avoids difficulties in constructing a large-area detector.
