Laboratory flight mill studies indicated that male Stomoxys calcitrans (L.) were capable of flying 28.91 km and females 29.11 km in 24 hours. However, the average distance was much less and varied with the age of the flies. Field-dispersal studies showed the flips would travel at least 2 miles (3.2 km) in search of a blood meal. Flies were recaptured up to 13 days after release.
