A new method is proposed for measuring the preexplosion stage duration in pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) upon pulsed initiation by the first harmonic (l = 1060 nm) of a neodymium laser. The influence of the initial temperature of a PETN sample and the initiating laser energy on the preexplosion stage duration has been studied. A phenomenological model of this stage is proposed that adequately describes the obtained results.
