The new compound Na7Ga13-I crystallizes in the trigonal-rhombohedral system, space group R3m, with the constants a = 1496.5(3) pm, c = 3893(1) pm, c/o = 2.60. The Ga atoms form Ga12 icosahedra and Ga15 clusters, connected to a threedimensional net. The arrangement of these clusters is related to the MgCu2 structure. The Na content of this compound correlates with the number of electrons necessary for a stable electron configuration in the Ga partial structure. The BaAl4 type structure of NaGa4 has been confirmed by single crystal data
