Ibuprofen matches acetaminophen and prednisone for overall flu-like syndrome but better controls injection-day symptoms.

Does acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or prednisone improve flu-like syndrome in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis initiating IM IFNbeta-1a?

Does acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or prednisone improve flu-like syndrome in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis initiating IM IFNbeta-1a?
No takes yet. Share an insight, caveat, or question.
No prophylactic treatment for flu-like syndrome is superior overall during the first month of IM IFNbeta-1a therapy, but ibuprofen provides better symptom control immediately following injection.
Río et al. (2004) conducted an RCT in Relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (n=84). Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or prednisone vs. Active comparators (three-arm trial) was evaluated on FLS index area under the curve (AUC) corrected by the number of measurement days. Prophylactic treatment with acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or prednisone showed no difference in overall flu-like syndrome index AUC, though ibuprofen better controlled symptoms on injection days (p=0.0007).
