Mg(mesC{NCy} 2 )(N{SiMe 3 } 2 )(THF) is a (pre)catalyst for C–C bond formation. Attempted isolation of intermediates in a proposed catalytic cycle was hindered by facile ligand redistribution. A subsequent investigation of commercially available organo- or amidomagnesium(II) compounds (including Grignard reagents) demonstrated similar catalytic behavior.
