Perinodal cryoablation preserves the AV node-His bundle and intact AV conduction in ~100% of dogs.
Why the study?
Does cryosurgical ablation of perinodal tissue preserve the specialized conduction system in adult dogs?
Does cryosurgical ablation of perinodal tissue preserve the specialized conduction system in adult dogs?
Cryosurgical ablation of perinodal tissue in dogs creates dense fibrous lesions that spare the AV node-His bundle, supporting its use for treating AV nodal reentry tachycardia.

Supports perinodal cryosurgery in canine models; hypothesis-generating for human AVNRT ablation.
Holman et al. (1988) studied Atrioventricular nodal reentry tachycardia (n=12). Cryosurgical ablation was evaluated on Survival and maintenance of intact atrioventricular conduction. Cryosurgical ablation of perinodal tissue in 12 adult dogs resulted in a confluent mass of dense fibrous tissue that preserved the atrioventricular node-His bundle and intact AV conduction in 100%.
