The purpose of this paper is to discuss the fundamental aspects of vortex magnetic separation reported before. Those factors such as the applied magnetic field H/sub 0/, slurry velocity V/sub 0/ and matrix design, which are significant parameters in HGMS play important roles in VMS and lead to, under certain conditions, high selectivity and high output. A process model of vortex magnetic separation is presented.>
