Key result
Reversible intrapancreatic fat deposition is linked to increased risk of diabetes, pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer.
Why the study?
Imaging-derived phenotypes such as intrapancreatic fat deposition (IPFD) have emerged as potential disease risk factors, but their clinical significance and causal relationships with pancreatic diseases require clarification.
Key points are not available for this paper at this time.
Population
General population with imaging data assessing IPFD
Comparison
Presence versus absence or degree of intrapancreatic fat deposition
Design
Review integrating imaging epidemiology and Mendelian randomization studies
Intrapancreatic fat deposition is a reversible imaging-derived phenotype associated with significant metabolic and pancreatic disease risks.
