In the synthesis of α‐diazosulfones (subsequent paper2) the N‐(sulfonylmethyl)urethanes, RSO2CH2NHCO2C2H5, are important intermediates. They have been prepared by means of a Curtius rearrangement of sulfonylacetazides, RSO2CH2CON3, which in turn have been obtained from the corresponding esters via the hydrazides.
