Resistance exercise is linked to improved fitness and triglycerides in hypertensive men without lowering BP.
Why the study?
The effect of resistance exercise on fitness, blood pressure, and blood lipid in hypertensive middle-aged men was investigated due to limited data.

Hypothesis-generating in hypertensive men; larger randomized trials needed before any practice consideration.
Shim et al. (2017) conducted an observational in Hypertension (n=23). Resistance exercise vs. No exercise control was evaluated on Cardiovascular endurance (20-m shuttle run) (p=<0.01). A 15-week resistance exercise program significantly improved cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, flexibility, and triglyceride levels in hypertensive middle-aged men, but did not significantly reduce blood pressure.
