Assess whether there is functional difference between T shape capsulotomy and capsulorrhaphy in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement. We prospectively divide 2 groups of patients who underwent hip arthroscopy for labral lesions secondary to a femorocetabular impingement between January 2011 and October 2012. We include the patients with mixed femoroacetabular impingement with labral lesions who underwent acetabular and femoral osteoplasty and labrum refixation with anchors. We exclude from the study the patients with condral lesions, degenerative labral lesions, dysplasia, parathrocanteric pathologies or any other hip pathology. All patient were operated by the same surgeon. The total number of patients included in our study was 21 patients for each group. In Group I was performed a T shape capsulotomy and in Group II was performed a T shape capsulotomy that was closed with side to side stitches of the medial and lateral flap (capsulorrhaphy). The functional results were evaluated with modified Harris Hip score (HHSm), Vail score, and Womac score in preoperatively, 3 months, and 6 months follow-up. The results were analyzed using STATA 10.0. Both groups were similar in demographic parameters. In Group I the HHSm preop, at 3 months, and at 6 months follow-up was 65, 87, and 96, respectively. The Vail Score preop, at 3 months, and at 6 months follow-up was 50, 80, and 94. The Womac score preop, at 3 months, and at 6 months followup was 59, 84, and 96. In Group II the HHSm preop, at 3 months, and at 6 months follow-up was 59, 86, and 94, respectively. The Vail Score preop, at 3 months, and at 6 months follow-up was 42, 83, and 92. The Womac score preop, at 3 months, and at 6 months follow-up was 54, 90, and 94. In both groups there was a significant difference (p <0.05, Wilcoxon test for paired samples) between the scores preoperative and follow-up at three months and six months on all scales evaluated. No significant difference was found between Group I and Group II when comparing the functional results at three months and six months follow up (T-Student). In our study we didn't find difference in functional results between a T shape capsulotomy and a capsulorrhaphy at three months and six months follow up.
