Key result
Daily microencapsulated pomegranate cuts postprandial triglycerides ~50% and reverts endothelial dysfunction in women with ACS.
Why the study?
Postprandial HDL composition changes likely impair endothelial vasodilation in women with ACS, but whether microencapsulated pomegranate reverts these HDL abnormalities was undetermined.
Does microencapsulated pomegranate improve HDL-induced endothelial dysfunction and postprandial triglyceridemia in women with acute coronary syndrome?
Population
Eleven women with a history of ACS
Comparison
Daily supplementation with 20 g of MiPo

MiPo may mitigate postprandial HDL-mediated endothelial dysfunction in ACS women; leaves open whether supplementation improves outcomes in larger trials.
Does microencapsulated pomegranate improve HDL-induced endothelial dysfunction and postprandial triglyceridemia in women with acute coronary syndrome?
Daily supplementation with 20 g of microencapsulated pomegranate for 30 days improved postprandial triglyceridemia and restored HDL-mediated endothelial function in women with a history of ACS.
Estrada-Luna et al. (2019) studied Acute Coronary Syndrome (n=11). Microencapsulated pomegranate (MiPo) was evaluated on Lipid profile, paraoxonase-1 (PON1) activity, and endothelial function. Daily supplementation with microencapsulated pomegranate decreased postprandial triglyceride AUC to half of initial values and reverted HDL-induced endothelial dysfunction in women with ACS.
