The macromolecule–bimetal complex ℗-Zn[Fe(CN)b]a-Cl2-3a (H2O)b (PBM) favours copolymerization of CO2 and relevant comonomers and thus promises practical synthesis of biodegradable polymers. Ethylene oxide (EO), succinic anhydride (SA) and carprolactone (CL) offer certain aliphatic structural units making the copolymers biodegradable. Composition and biodegradability of the copolymers can be regulated by varying the monomers ratio e.g. EO/PO. The degradation proceeds mainly on the polymer surfaces; WPA (weight loss per area) instead total weight loss can be used as a degradation indicator for the soil burial tests.
