Polyphthalocyanine (1) coatings on titanium foils were prepared by in situ synthesis starting from 1,2,4,5‐tetracyanobenzene (3). In order to optimize the electrochemical activity of the polymer modified electrodes several parameters, e.g. pretreatment of Ti‐foils, amount of 3, reaction temperature and time were varied. The layer of 1 was analyzed by UV/VIS‐ and IR‐spectroscopy. Electrochemical measurements were carried out in K3, K4 [Fe(CN)6] redox electrolyte. In comparison with a Pt‐electrode the polymer modified Ti‐electrodes show also high activity combined with stability. Electrodes prepared from other nitriles (4–8) were investigated in principle only.
