Mobile health, or mHealth, is a growing area of research and development. Made possible by wireless technologies, mHealth uses communication devices to connect patients and providers remotely. mHealth promises to make a big impact on health care in the next decades, possibly changing the way traditional health care is currently conducted. Many pilot projects are being done worldwide, and areas of opportunity are being identified for a global impact. Barriers to large-scale adoption such as standards, security, and interoperability are also being identified.
