Bleomycin electrosclerotherapy provides a treatment strategy for rare adult KHE with KMP.
Why the study?
Kaposiform Hemangioendothelioma primarily occurs in childhood but rare adult cases with Kasabach–Merritt phenomenon present diagnostic and treatment challenges.
Case Report (n=1)
Provides initial adult KHE-KMP experience with bleomycin electrosclerotherapy; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.
Kaposiform Hemangioendothelioma (KHE) is a rare tumor, which primarily manifests in childhood and adolescence. 1 Nevertheless, rare cases in adulthood have also been reported. 2,3 KHE is often associated with Kasabach–Merritt phenomenon (KMP), a severe consumptive coagulopathy that can lead to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and increased bleeding risk. 4 This report details a case of KHE with KMP in an adult patient and highlights the clinical and histological presentation, the diagnostic challenges and treatment strategies for this rare condition.

Veeser et al. (2025) conducted a case report in Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma with Kasabach-Merritt phenomenon (n=1). Bleomycin electrosclerotherapy was evaluated. This report details the clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, and treatment strategies using bleomycin electrosclerotherapy for a rare case of KHE with KMP in an adult patient.
