OBJECTIVE: To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the publication of Psychosomatic Medicine, a review of its first 45 years of existence was performed to highlight the conceptual, methodological, and scientific advances made. METHOD: A very selective overview of key articles was made to illustrate the evolution of concepts and to document scientific progress. CONCLUSION: Psychosomatic Medicine has published important contributions to the development of an integrative theory of medicine.
