Mitral valve repair plus septal myectomy eliminates SAM and improves MR in a HOCM patient.
Why the study?
Mitral regurgitation due to chordae rupture causing posterior leaflet prolapse during follow-up of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy is a rare clinical occurrence.
Case Report (n=1)
No
Mitral valve repair combined with ventricular septal myectomy was successfully performed in a rare case of severe mitral regurgitation caused by posterior leaflet prolapse with chordae rupture during the follow-up of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
Supports feasibility of combined mitral repair and myectomy in HOCM with prolapse; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.

A 2025 study conducted a case report in Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy with severe mitral regurgitation (n=1). Mitral valvuloplasty and ventricular septal myectomy was evaluated on Postoperative mitral regurgitation and systolic anterior motion. Mitral valve repair combined with ventricular septal myectomy successfully eliminated systolic anterior motion and improved mitral regurgitation in a patient with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
