Minimalistic consumption has grown significantly in recent years. As the global trend toward minimalistic consumers continues, it is important to recognize minimalists as a significant consumer group with substantial buying power. However, in part owing to minimalist philosophy being seen as in conflict with excessive materialism or general consumption levels, the topic of minimalists as luxury consumers has drawn only limited attention. This study summarizes what we know about minimalists as consumers of luxury goods and calls for further research, as extant studies indicate that many minimalists are significant consumers of luxury and fashion goods and services. Theoretical perspectives relevant to academic research are reviewed for different segments of minimalist consumers. In addition, theoretical perspectives and detailed suggestions for future research are put forward.
