Presentation slides for the short paper Beyond Heavy Infrastructures: A Browser-Based Platform for Teaching Digital Manuscript Studies, presented at the ADHO Digital Humanities Conference 2026 (DH2026: Engagement), Daejeon, South Korea, on 29 July 2026, Session S076. The presentation introduces MANO – Manuscripts Online, a lightweight, browser-based platform for teaching digital manuscript studies. MANO is designed to reduce project-specific technical overhead in teaching by providing a client-side environment that requires no installation, user account, dedicated server, or database. The platform supports four pedagogical activities through its Resources, Transcription Viewer, Metadata Editor, and Metadata Collection modules, focusing on the relationship between TEI encoding and visual representation, the creation of structured manuscript metadata, and the reuse of encoded data. The presentation argues that lightweight architectures can lower technical barriers while preserving scholarly standards, interoperability, and reuse.
