GdB 6 and GdB 4 have Neel temperatures (I N ) much lower than those expected from a comparison with the Tb and Dy compounds. Magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and esr measurements reveal anomalies in the vicinity of the expected T N . It is suggested that a significant amount of short range order sets in between here and the observed T N .
