Key result

Why the study?
The mechanism underlying irregular and chaotic changes in the shape of diastolic musical murmurs in aortic regurgitation was not well understood.

Variable AR murmurs may occur even in sinus rhythm; this Level 5 case leaves open mechanisms of chaotic diastolic flow.
Case Report (n=1)
This case report and experimental model suggest that chaotic musical murmurs in aortic regurgitation can be caused by irregular swaying of the non-coronary cusp due to the Venturi effect.
Miyahara et al. (1996) conducted a case report in Aortic regurgitation (n=1). A chaotic diastolic musical murmur in a patient with aortic regurgitation was attributed to irregular swaying of the non-coronary cusp caused by the Venturi effect from a regurgitant jet stream.
