Key result
Advanced major vessel sarcomas show PDGFRA deregulation, suggesting potential sensitivity to RTK inhibitors.
Why the study?
Primary sarcomas of the great vessels are very rare neoplasms with limited reported cases, and their receptor tyrosine kinase profiles are not well characterized.
Observational (n=8)
Primary sarcomas of the great vessels frequently exhibit gene amplification and high expression of receptor tyrosine kinases like PDGFRA and EGFR, suggesting potential sensitivity to RTK inhibitors.

Should not yet alter management; leaves open whether PDGFRA deregulation predicts RTK-inhibitor benefit in vascular sarcomas.
Tamborini et al. (2007) conducted an observational in Primary sarcomas of the great vessels (n=8). Receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) status was evaluated on Gene amplification and expression of PDGFRA, PDGFRB, EGFR and KIT. All 8 cases of advanced high-grade sarcomas of major vessels showed a PDGFRA-deregulated cytogenetic profile, suggesting potential sensitivity to RTK-inhibiting treatments.
