The article is devoted to the problem of compatibility in interaction as a linguistic category of functional grammar. The relevance of addressing cooperation is determined by the conditions of modern integrative and disintegrative, dialogical and antidialogical communication among subjects of political discourse. The main focus is on the analysis of linguistic means that constitute the core and periphery of the functional and semantic field of compatibility. The purpose of the study is to illustrate the linguistic (lexical, morphological, and syntactic) units through which the interaction between Russia and China is constructed in texts of media discourse. The research material consists of text messages from electronic media of Russian-language news sites (RGRU, Kommersant, RIA Novosti, Interfax, TASS, Argumenty i Fakty, etc.). Using the methods of linguistic description and discourse analysis, along with the case method, the linguistic means that form the core and periphery of the functional and semantic field of compatibility in the structure of messages are identified. It has been established that reciprocal verbs, the pronoun “we”, and adverbs indicating joint action serve as markers of the functional and semantic field of compatibility in the texts of Russian-language news sites at the morphological level. The modeling of the functional field of compatibility in media discourse texts at the syntactic level is achieved through compositional conjunctions, non-derivative prepositions, and the adverb “together”, which conveys the semantics of “communit”y, as well as through commitative constructions and repetitions of reciprocal verbs. At the lexical level, the identifiers of the functional and semantic field of compatibility in media texts include lexemes denoting cooperation, nominations of an action object common to all participants, lexemes indicating a time and/or place of action shared by all participants, and stylistic synonyms. These units of the language system are employed to construct equality among participants in communication and to foster the dialogic nature of their interaction. This leads to the conclusion that the linguistic category of compatibility can be considered a fundamental factor in building effective communication. The results of the study are of interest to specialists dealing with the problems of functional and semantic fields, the theory of speech genres (media discourse), and the modeling of optimal and effective international communication through the means of the language system.
