Human blood platelets were found to possess the whole biological system for synthesis of prostaglandins from C14‐labeled acetate and inherent derivatives of essential fatty acids. The incorporation of radioactive acetate into prostaglandins, polar lipids and neutral lipids was followed as function of acetate concentration and time. Of the fractions mentioned, ca. 10% of the label was found in PGEs. Among the PGEs, PGE1 and PGE2 account for 48.6 and 43.4% of the radioactive label. The results obtained were related to the theory of the inhibiting function of prostaglandins on the platelet agglutination.
