Duodenal tumor resection reveals an unclassifiable spindle cell tumor with EWSR1 translocation and 1-year recurrence-free survival.
Why the study?
A newly established disease concept, round cell sarcoma with EWSR1-non-ETS fusions, lacks reported cases in Japan and presents diagnostic challenges for duodenal spindle cell tumors.

This case highlights a rare duodenal unclassifiable spindle cell tumor with EWSR1 translocation, discussing its potential fit within the newly established 2020 classification of round cell sarcoma with EWSR1-non-ETS fusions.

Yamanaka et al. (2022) conducted a case report in Unclassifiable spindle cell tumor of the duodenum (n=1). Subtotal stomach-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy was evaluated on Pathological diagnosis and recurrence-free survival. A 45-year-old man with a duodenal tumor underwent surgical resection and was diagnosed with an unclassifiable spindle cell tumor with EWSR1 translocation, remaining recurrence-free at 1 year.
