Soaring oil prices have recently returned the focus on solar/wind energy as viable alternative sources. Thus, dispersed generation is likely to become a reality in the near future. However, a proliferation of grid-connected small-scale wind turbines and photovoltaic systems will undoubtedly raise power quality issues for utility companies. In this article, harmonics generated by a utility inter-tied 4-kW residential hybrid wind/photovoltaic system (WPS) are investigated. It is to determine to what extent the immediate residential loads attached to the WPS and the overall power distribution system voltage will be affected. Wave shape, trends, and harmonics measurements performed on inputs and output terminals of the system are presented.
