A linear spectral estimation technique is used to image targets of simple geometric shape from bistatic scattered field microwave data. Reconstructions of both metallic and dielectric objects are presented. The algorithm we use to recover images of the scattering targets allows one to incorporate prior knowledge about the target into the inverse scattering algorithm to obtain image estimates with improved resolution. We apply our method to real data sets provided by the Institut Fresnel, Marseille, France, which illustrates the strength, as well as limitations, of linearized inverse scattering schemes.
