Intraoperative Sterofundin is linked to lower lactate and faster acid-base normalization versus Ringer lactate.
Why the study?
Switching to balanced fluids during major surgeries may reduce lactic acidosis and hyperchloremic acidosis, but their effects during scoliosis surgery are not well studied.
Does Sterofundin improve acid-base physiology compared to Ringer lactate in patients undergoing scoliosis correction surgery?

Does Sterofundin improve acid-base physiology compared to Ringer lactate in patients undergoing scoliosis correction surgery?
Sterofundin maintains acid-base physiology better than Ringer lactate during scoliosis surgery, resulting in lower lactate levels and earlier normalization of strong ion difference.
Supports Sterofundin consideration for acid-base stability in scoliosis surgery; leaves open need for randomized confirmation.

Sharma et al. (2016) conducted a cohort in Scoliosis. Sterofundin vs. Ringer lactate was evaluated on Acid-base changes, hemodynamics, and readiness for extubation. Sterofundin infusion during scoliosis surgery resulted in lower lactate levels and earlier normalization of strong ion difference compared to Ringer lactate (infused volume 2200 ± 640 ml vs 2400 ± 512 ml).
