Temporal intermittency in a chaotic dynamical system can be regarded as a manifestation of the multifractal properties of the set of histories. The Renyi entropies K q which generalize the Kolmogorov entropy K 1 play a role analogous to the exponents tau (q) characterising the scaling properties of the moments of the mass distribution. The authors introduce the topological entropy h( lambda ) of the subset of histories with the same local expansion parameter. They show that K q and h( lambda ) are related to each other by means of a Legendre transformation.
