The temperature dependence of the superconducting critical current density Jc and the upper critical field Hc2 has been studied for the composite-processed V/Hf0.4Zr0.6 tape, in which the C-15 crystal-type Laves phase compound is formed by diffusion between the vanadium sheath and the Hf0.4Zr0.6 alloy core. Jc of the V/Hf0.4Zr0.6 rapidly increases with decreasing temperature. At 1.7 K the V/Hf0.4Zr0.6 shows higher Hc2 and Jc than those of commercially available Nb3Sn and V3Ga. A superconducting magnet wound with V/Hf0.4Zr0.6 tape might be able to generate a magnetic field exceeding 200 kOe at 1.7 K.
