A computer simulation study was carried out to assess the performance of the test for seasonality of Hewitt et al. with monthly incidence rates. This test can be very powerful against an annual sinusoidal pattern. The test's power against a semi‐annual sinusoidal pattern or against a “one‐pulse” pattern is very small for the parameter values considered in this study.
