Contribution of the components of a miniature schlieren system to its performance is investigated and design data are obtained.It is shown that the careful adjustment and selection of the components of the system can produce sufficient output pulses to perform the reliable measurement of shock velocity up to a shock Mach number of 2.6, which corresponds to about 2.5 mm Hg in the low pressure chamber and 1 ata in the high pressure chamber.
