A case of retinal detachment that progressed to total detachment with massive periretinal proliferation and spontaneously reattached without surgical intervention is presented. The findings suggest that release of preretinal and transvitreous membranes occurred, allowing reattachment to take place. A relationship between macular preretinal fibrosis (MPF) and massive periretinal proliferation (MPP) is also demonstrated by this unique case. RETINA 1:216–219, 1981
