Polyaniline (PANI) nanofibres or nanotubes (180–200 nm in diameter) containing Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (diameter ≈10 nm) and PANI-coated γ - Fe 2 O 3 nanoneedles (40–80 nm in diameter and 500–600 nm in length) were prepared by in situ doping polymerization in the presence of H 3 PO 4 as a dopant. The composite nanostructures exhibited electrical–magnetic properties that are dependent on the structure and the content of the magnetic nanoparticles used. The formation mechanism of the self-assembled composite nanostructures is discussed.
