Key result
MDPV identified in California ducklings shows 100% homology to the reference strain.
Why the study?
Muscovy duck parvovirus has been demonstrated in weak, high-mortality Muscovy ducklings with characteristic pathological findings, but detailed evidence in California was lacking.

Alerts veterinarians to MDPV in California ducklings; leaves open prevalence, transmission, and control needs.
Woolcock et al. (2000) conducted a case report in Muscovy duck parvovirus (MDPV) infection. Muscovy duck parvovirus (MDPV) infection was evaluated on Detection and genetic characterization of MDPV. Muscovy duck parvovirus was identified in 1- to 4-week-old ducklings in California, with the sequenced capsid vP1 gene showing 100% homology to the MDPV 89384 reference strain.
