An experimental study has been made on determining the size of bubbles at a single alumina nozzle immersed in molten iron by using a pressure pulse technique.Nozzles used in the experiments are of sizes of 0.32 ~ 0.67cm in OD and 0 .12~0.33cm in ID .The gas-jiow rate and the oxygen content in the iron melt were varied from 0.1 to 36 cm'/sec at 1 600°C andfrom 0.0040 to 0.046%, respectively. The observed bubble size has been compared with calcula tions from theoretical and empirical equations obtained for wetted I/o zzles in water and organic liquids.Calculations show good agreement with experiments provided the outer nozzle diameter is taken as the correlating nozzle diameter.B ased on the present study, an empirical equation (Eq.( 4)) is given to represent the size of bubbles ill the present range of gas-jiow rates .It is shawl!that the empirical equatioll can be applied to predict the size of bubbles ill various liquids .
