Practical reaction mechanisms which can be described by a coupled pair of equations for which the kinetics exhibit limit cycle behavior are shown to possess rotating spiral wave solutions. A multi-scale perturbation procedure is used and the first order asymptotic solutions are shown to be given by a class of λ-ω-reaction-diffusion equations in polar variables representing amplitude and phase.
