Angio-Seal successfully closes iatrogenic RV perforation to stop hemorrhage and resolve hemodynamic instability.
Why the study?
Iatrogenic right ventricular perforation during pericardial paracentesis is a rare complication with potentially fatal consequences requiring effective management strategies.
Case Report (n=1)
The Angio-Seal vascular closure device can be successfully used for the percutaneous management of iatrogenic right ventricular perforation during pericardiocentesis.
Suggests Angio-Seal feasibility for iatrogenic RV perforation; hypothesis-generating from one case and should not change practice.
This case report presents an instance of iatrogenic right ventricular perforation during pericardial paracentesis, a rare complication with potentially fatal consequences. Despite initial unsuccessful pericardial drainage, successful closure of the perforation was achieved using an Angio-Seal vascular closure device, leading to cessation of hemorrhage and resolution of hemodynamic instability. The case highlights the efficacy of Angio-Seal in managing such complications, emphasizing its utility in complex clinical scenarios involving pericardial interventions.

Skalidis et al. (2024) conducted a case report in Iatrogenic right ventricular perforation during pericardiocentesis (n=1). Angio-Seal vascular closure device was evaluated on Closure of the perforation and resolution of hemodynamic instability. The Angio-Seal vascular closure device successfully closed an iatrogenic right ventricular perforation, leading to cessation of hemorrhage and resolution of hemodynamic instability.
