Key result
Cold pressor testing triggers sustained or biphasic heart rate responses driven by distinct autonomic mechanisms.
Why the study?
The heart rate response to the cold pressor test in healthy subjects is less well defined and shows high inter-individual variability.
Does the cold pressor test elicit different heart rate and autonomic control responses in healthy young subjects?
Observational (n=39)
No
Does the cold pressor test elicit different heart rate and autonomic control responses in healthy young subjects?
Healthy subjects exhibit two distinct heart rate and autonomic response patterns to the cold pressor test, highlighting high inter-individual physiological variability.
No takes yet. Share an insight, caveat, or question.
CPT elicits divergent autonomic HR patterns during testing in healthy adults; leaves open whether patterns predict risk or warrant clinical use.
Mourot et al. (2009) conducted an observational in Healthy (n=39). Cold pressor test vs. Baseline was evaluated on Cardiac autonomic control (heart rate and short-term fractal scaling exponent α1). During a 3-minute cold pressor test, 20 healthy men showed a sustained heart rate increase with reciprocal autonomic changes, while 19 showed a biphasic heart rate response driven by autonomic co-activation.
