This paper analyzed the objects related to children, identified at the archaelogical site of Sítio do Capão, in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, during the research carried out between 2002 and 2003. The Sítio do Capão is a construction from the end of 17th century with aspects referred to the “bandeirista” period. In 1911, it was purchased by the Associação Feminina Beneficente e Instrutiva, founded by Analia Franco, begining to house orphaned and abandoned children, mothers in vulnerable situations with their youths and widows, until 1997. This investigation intended to reflect everyday life of children in the institution through the archaeological and historical perspectives. As a result, it is believed that toys provided children numerous ways to play, furthermore they aided children in the construction of knowledge and formal concepts.
