Patients with false recurrence (12.5 per cent) have been excluded from study. Of the 403 patients 167 had recurrence (more than 40 per cent) and a secondary operation was indicated in 107 of these (roughly 1 of every 4 patients undergoing the initial operation). The various factors associated with recurrence have been studied. Management of urolithiasis is a complex problem and the need for teamwork by a urologist and a nephrologist in a stone or renal clinic is apparent. © 1982 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byTEKIN A, TEKGUL S, ATSU N, BAKKALOGLU M and KENDI S (2018) Oral Potassium Citrate Treatment for Idiopathic Hypocitruria in Children With Calcium UrolithiasisJournal of Urology, VOL. 168, NO. 6, (2572-2574), Online publication date: 1-Dec-2002.LEE Y, HUANG W, TSAI J and HUANG J (2018) THE EFFICACY OF POTASSIUM CITRATE BASED MEDICAL PROPHYLAXIS FOR PREVENTING UPPER URINARY TRACT CALCULI: A MIDTERM FOLLOWUP STUDYJournal of Urology, VOL. 161, NO. 5, (1453-1457), Online publication date: 1-May-1999.TRINCHIERI A, OSTINI F, NESPOLI R, ROVERA F, MONTANARI E and ZANETTI G (2018) A PROSPECTIVE STUDY OF RECURRENCE RATE AND RISK FACTORS FOR RECURRENCE AFTER A FIRST RENAL STONEJournal of Urology, VOL. 162, NO. 1, (27-30), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1999.Kamihira O, Ono Y, Katoh N, Yamada S, Mizutani K and Ohshima S (2018) Long-Term Stone Recurrence Rate After Extracorporeal Shock Wave LithotripsyJournal of Urology, VOL. 156, NO. 4, (1267-1271), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1996.Sun B, Lee Y, Jiaan B, Chen K, Chang L and Chen K (2018) Recurrence rate and risk factors for urinary calculi after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsyJournal of Urology, VOL. 156, NO. 3, (903-906), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1996.Lycklama À Nijeholt G, Tan H and Papapoulos S (2018) Metabolic Evaluation in Stone Patients in Relation to Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy TreatmentJournal of Urology, VOL. 146, NO. 6, (1478-1481), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1991.
