Key result
Higher physical activity intensity linked to increased HDL-C specifically in patients with metabolic disease.
Cross-Sectional (n=7,295)
Effect estimate: β=0.07
p-value: p=<0.05
Age may modify lab parameter responses to activity intensity in metabolic disease; leaves open need for prospective trials before personalized recommendations.

Lim et al. (2018) conducted a cross-sectional in Metabolic disease (n=7,295). Physical activity intensity vs. Low-intensity physical activity was evaluated on High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level (β=0.07, p=<0.05). In individuals with metabolic disease, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels decreased with age and significantly increased with higher physical activity intensity, whereas no such relationship was observed in the normal group.
