With the assumption that the splitting of the CO2+[X2Πg(100)(3/2)] level is caused by perturbation of the CO2+[X2Πg(020)(3/2)G+] level, the bending vibrational levels are calculated and the bending frequency, ω2, is found to be 514.9 cm−1. This value is comparable to the presently observed frequency of 510 ± 10 cm−1 obtained from an analysis of CO2+(A2Πu → X2Πg) fluorescence spectra which are selectively produced by vacuum ultraviolet radiation.
